The trails around Sa Pa run through the Mường Hoa valley — rice terraces, H'Mông and Giáy villages, paths that have been walked by locals for generations. No infrastructure, no artificial experience. The valley sits at 1,000–1,500m.
Fansipan is in a different category. The north-face route from Trạm Tôn (1,900m) gains 1,200m to the summit at 3,143m — through cloud forest, bamboo, and alpine scrub. A wilderness camp at 2,800m. A 4:30am summit push. The cable car climbs the south face. The trail climbs the mountain.

Oct–Nov: clearest skies, golden rice terraces in the valley, strongest summit views on Fansipan. Mar–Apr: blossom season, reliable weather. Jan–Feb: coldest — can be below freezing at Fansipan summit, but the views when it clears are the best of the year. Wet season (May–Aug): valley treks are muddier but doable; Fansipan summit trek is not operated.
